LIFESITE NEWS — Cardinal warns gay militancy more dangerous than Soviet times

August 17, 2005

“Latvian Cardinal Janis Pujats warned that homosexual militancy is more dangerous than the militancy experienced by the war-torn country in Soviet times. ‘In Soviet times we faced atheism, which oppressed religion; now we have an era of sexual atheism,’ he said. ‘This form of atheism is even more infectious and dangerous, spiritual values disappear in a swamp of sexual irregularity.’”

WLNS-TV — Recap of same-sex marriage hearing

August 17, 2005

“Others say (the Marriage Protection Amendment) states clearly who is, and who is not eligible for health benefits. Gary Glenn, President of American Family (Association) of Michigan: ‘The people in Michigan defined what marriage is, and that is one man and one woman, and that is what the issue is all about, and that definition includes (taxpayer-financed) health care benefits.’”

ASSOCIATED PRESS — Gay couples ask judge to allow benefits

August 16, 2005

“While the courtroom was filled with supporters of the gay couples, there was at least one person who thinks the amendment bars domestic partner benefits. But the secondary intent was to make sure the definition is honored for any purpose, ‘including the provision of taxpayer-financed spousal benefits,’ he said.”

FOX NEWS — Straight men marry in Canada for tax benefits

August 9, 2005

Dear AFA-Michigan supporter,

In every speech I gave last year supporting the Marriage Protection Amendment to our state constitution, I predicted that if legally redefined, marriage would eventually be devalued into nothing more than a financial calculation, a means by which new and various combinations of individuals could access financial benefits at taxpayers’ expense. This multiplicity of newly-endowed beneficiaries will carry a price tag, and taxpayers will be forced to pay it…a practical secular reason why marriage should remain only between one man and one woman. Now that Canada has destroyed that legal definition, watch for polygamy and even more new government beneficiaries to follow. Legally, on what basis can the Canadian government deny the next special interest group its demand that marriage be redefined again?
