Rally supports Heights’ anti-discrimination rules

November 28, 2005

“According to AFA-Michigan President Gary Glenn…’We’re confident one of two things will happen in early 2006. Four members of the city council, once they realize the threat this discriminatory language poses to the citizens of Dearborn Heights, will vote to remove it from city ordinances, or…city residents will launch a petition drive to place the issue on the ballot to let the people decide.’ …Glenn…said that fostering hatred and intolerance are not, and have never been, a part of the AFA-Michigan agenda. ‘The Triangle Foundation throws its malicious “hate” label at anyone who disagrees with their special interest political agenda — the Boy Scouts, the Salvation Army, the Catholic Church, even the 60 percent of Dearborn Heights’ voters who supported the Marriage Protection Amendment — so we’re in good company,’ Glenn said.”

Gay-rights group hosting town hall meeting

November 18, 2005

“According to Gary Glenn, president of the American Family Association of Michigan, not everyone in the community was in favor of including the (‘sexual orientation’ and ‘gender identity’) amendments. …Glenn said that AFA-Michigan would be working with those Dearborn Heights residents that also oppose the amendments by supporting them in their efforts to gather enough signatures to have the issue placed on a ballot, which would allow voters to decide whether the amendments would remain.”

PLYMOUTH, Mich. — Parents in Plymouth and Canton will be disappointed to learn that when it comes to what movies are appropriate for teenagers, even Hollywood has higher standards than their local public school system, a statewide family values organization said Friday.

“Impossible as it is to believe, it can’t be too reassuring to parents to learn that they can put more faith in Hollywood to help protect their teens from inappropriate movies than they can the local school system,” said Gary Glenn, president of the American Family Association of Michigan.

Glenn’s comments came in response to a request for help from the father of a Plymouth High School student who objects to plans by his 16-year old son’s U.S. government class to show the R-rated movie “Wag the Dog” during class on Monday. He confirmed the planned showing in a telephone conversation with Plymouth High Principal Dr. Michael Bee.

Dearborn Heights tackles gay rights

November 18, 2005

“Dearborn Heights has found itself at the center of a battle over gay rights. The city recently adopted an ordinance that creates a commission to investigate incidences of discrimination, including that based on sexual orientation and gender identity. The ordinance may soon be challenged by residents, with the assistance of the American Family Association of Michigan, which has successfully knocked down human rights ordinances protecting gays in cities around the state, including in Royal Oak and Ferndale. …’We do not believe that city, state or federal law should establish special protection for the homosexual lifestyle,’ said Gary Glenn, president of the state’s AFA, who has said that homosexuality can make individuals susceptible to domestic violence, mental illness and cancer.”

LOVE crusade captures attention

November 17, 2005

Dear AFA-Michigan supporter,

I hope you will find this encouraging, a group of concerned parents who are doing an inspired and extremely effective job of communicating support for traditional family values in their community and public schools.

“The grass-roots traditional values group has been a thorn in the side of the Howell Public Schools Board of Education since June, when the group approached the board with an offer to provide enough copies of the national motto — “In God We Trustâ€? — to hang in every classroom in the district. …The district has rejected the offer, but the group has been persistent in its message, continuing to push the issue, most recently noting that on Monday the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal to have the motto removed from a government building in North Carolina.”

MAJOR VICTORY — Supreme Court lets “In God We Trust” stand

November 14, 2005

“The Supreme Court on Monday…did not comment in rejecting an appeal over an ‘In God We Trust’ inscription on the Davidson County Government Center in Lexington, N.C. The inscription, in 18-inch block letters, was paid for with donations from individuals and churches in 2002. …A panel of the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said that ‘In God We Trust’ appears on the nation’s coins and was made the national motto by Congress. ‘In this situation, the reasonable observer must be deemed aware of the patriotic uses, both historical and present, of the phrase “In God We Trust,”‘ the court ruled.”

North of border, gay marriage spurs social revolution

November 7, 2005

“Bishop Frederick Henry of the Catholic Diocese of Calgary…himself has been hauled before the Alberta Human Rights Tribunal for promoting traditional marriage in his pastoral letters. ‘The human rights tribunals have become like thought police,’ he says. ‘In Canada, you can now use the coercive powers of the state to silence opposition.’ …If someone tells you same-sex marriage won’t affect your marriage, tell them to look north. The evidence is building.”
