Glenn says ‘no’ to money for LGBT crime victims
State legislators vow to investigate
by Dawn Wolfe Gutterman
LANSING — Funding to help LGBT crime victims could be threatened if anti-gay family crusader Gary Glenn has his way.
As reported by Between The Lines in December, the Triangle Foundation has received a $40,000 grant from the state of Michigan to further its work assisting LGBT crime victims. The money was awarded by the state’s Crime Victim Services Commission under the Victims of Crime Act program, which collects federal court fines from perpetrators to be used for victim assistance. Triangle plans to use the money for its Anti-Violence Project, which assists LGBT hate crime victims in a number of ways, from guiding victims through the legal process to providing referrals to shelters, health care providers, counselors and attorneys. (See “Triangle receives state victim-assistance grant,” online at www.pridesource.com.)
However, Glenn, the president of the self-styled Christian organization American Family Association of Michigan, is opposed to using government funds to aid LGBT crime victims, and is urging state legislators to take the money away.

All Politics is Loco
A new threat, a new low
by Sean Kosofsky
On February 3, Gary Glenn of the American Family Association of Michigan sank to a new low. He issued a press release with the nastiest and most malicious rhetoric yet, demanding the State of Michigan take back funding it gave to Triangle Foundation to serve victims of anti-GLBT hate crimes. Since Triangle is the only agency in Michigan offering comprehensive services for GLBT hate crime victims, this could seriously jeopardize vital programs for our community.

“Gary Glenn, president of the Midland-based American Family Association of Michigan, would like to see intelligent design taught as a theory alongside others, including evolution. ‘Intelligent design teaches the universe and its makeup is so complex that the odds are overwhelming that the universe was designed by an intelligent being,’ Glenn said. ‘Those of us who are people of faith believe … that was God.’Â He said teaching intelligent design and evolution provides equal access and academic freedom. …’How do you justify censoring a particular theory?’ Glenn asked.”

“(A) conservative group wants a local state senator to help get a $40,000 refund from a Michigan organization serving gays, lesbians and others. Gary Glenn, president of the American Family Association of Michigan…objects to a grant the state Crime Victims Services Commission approved for the Detroit-based Triangle Foundation. …’I appreciate (Glenn’s) organization bringing that line item to our attention,’ (Republican state Sen. Tony) Stamas said. …In a news release, Glenn called the Triangle Foundation ‘a militantly partisan homosexual activist group hostile to the values of most Michigan families.’”

Dissolving Marriage
If everything is marriage, then nothing is.
Canada, you don’t know the half of it. In mid-January, Canada was rocked by news that a Justice Department study had called for the decriminalization and regulation of polygamy. Actually, two government studies recommended decriminalizing polygamy. (Only one has been reported on.) And even that is only part of the story. Canadians, let me be brutally frank. You are being played for a bunch of fools by your legal-political elite. Your elites mumble a confusing jargon to your face to keep you from understanding what they really have in mind.

Appropriations subcommittee chairs urged to investigate and demand refund
Family group condemns state funding of homosexual lobby
LANSING, Mich. — A statewide family values organization Friday denounced a state agency’s approval of $40,000 in government funding for the Triangle Foundation, a controversial, highly partisan, and militantly left-wing homosexual lobbying group based in Detroit.
The American Family Association of Michigan urged key lawmakers to investigate and demand a refund of the grant, approved by Democratic Gov. Jennifer Granholm’s appointees to the Crime Victims Services Commission. As a candidate for governor in 2002, Granholm signed a fundraising letter for the Triangle Foundation. (more…)
